The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it is returning to
Syracuse NY after a two year hiatus with the Upstate Trojans starting in the 2023-2024 season.
“We are very pleased to have Marquis Gilbert and his team as part of the ABA,” stated ABA CEO Joe Newman. “Syracuse is a terrific basketball city; we did have a very good team there previously and we know that Marquis will be very successful.”
A native of Syracuse, Gilbert starred at Corcoran High School prior to playing at MVCC College and Eckard Collage. He currently works for the YMCA in Syracuse. “I want to create an exciting entertainment team that will get the Syracuse basketball culture back to high expectations,” added Gilbert. “The team will be fun, passion, gritty, filled with leadership and determination and will be all about giving back to the Syracuse community. Our job is always being sure we have a successful season on the court but to also make sure we are able to make a huge impact off the court with our fans.”
