The ABA welcomes another franchise in Ohio’s Capital…
The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the Columbus Wizards have been added to the growing list of expansion teams for the upcoming season. “The Columbus Wizards will be a great addition to the very competitive North Central Division,” stated ABA CEO Joe Newman. “And we have two great owners who will help maximize the potential of the team on and off the court.“
Casey Gillespie, formerly with The Ohio Bruins, made the decision to start a new team in Columbus. “I will always be grateful for what we were able to accomplish with The Ohio Bruins,” added Gillespie. “It was a wild ride and I have had the opportunity to develop close relationships with many people from it. I am excited to partner with Jared Smith and bring a new, fresh and exciting brand of basketball to the city. Having known Jared for a little over 10 years, I know we have the potential to build something special and create a great competition with the Bruins.“
Jared Smith is well respected in the community and is also heavily involved with the youth. He is the founder of @wizardworkouts which provides skill and development training for all ages. “I’m extremely excited about this opportunity,” commented Smith. “This has been something I’ve been wanting to do for awhile. After playing in the ABA for a few years, I truly believe the staff, players and supporters for the Columbus Wizards will have a whole new prospective on basketball.”
