The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced the addition of the Long Island Strong Arm Ballers as part of its record-setting expansion for the 2024-2025 season. “We are very pleased to add Matthew Maldonado and his team to the league,” stated ABA CEO Joe Newman. “He has a great basketball background and should be very successful both on and off the court.”

Matt, a Brentwood LI native with deep Long Island roots, has spent years shaping the next generation of players, coaching and training across various high schools and leagues, building talent and guiding young athletes on and off the court. His success extends to the Pro-Am circuit, where he became a three-time champion with four straight championship appearances in just four seasons. More than a coach, Maldonado is a mentor, maintaining strong ties with his players beyond basketball – helping open doors and creating opportunities for life.

With his community outreach and immediate success, Coach Matt with his home grown talent from
Long Island created the Strong Arm Ballers, trusting in his experience, leadership and championship
mindset to make an impact in the ABA.  “My close friend, Jason “DJ Threat” Campbell, tragically
passed away at 23 in a motorcycle accident,” added Maldonado.  “To honor him, childhood friends
tattooed his name on their “strong arms,” inspiring the name Strong Arm Ballers.”
