The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it is returning to Owensboro KY for the 2022-2023 season with the newly formed Owensboro Thunder.
“We are especially pleased to be back in Owensboro,” stated ABA CEO Joe Newman. “It is a great city and the home of former ABA Champion Kentucky Bisons. And we believe that the owner of the Owensboro Thunder, Tommy Burnett, Jr will do a terrific job.
Tommy Burnett, Jr is an Ordained pastor, teacher, educator, the GM of Liberty Tax Service as well as the CEO of the Metro Louisville Youth Basketball Assn and a former professional basketball team owner. The team will be part of the Midwest Division and will play teams in Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois and Indiana. “I am really looking forward to being a part of the ABA,” added Burnett. “I remember the support that the city provided the Bisons and my goal is to bring another championship to Owensboro.”
