The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the Antelope Valley Bulls located in Lancaster CA are set to begin play in November. “We are very excited to have Sonel Shropshire as part of the ABA,” stated ABA CEO Joe Newman. “Sonel has been a student of the game for nearly 40 years, including his days as a Division 1 point guard at Delaware State U and playing for various basketball organizations around the nation.

“We have a remarkable fan base in our region that is ready for professional basketball,” added Shropshire. “We are excited about developing players and having them give back to their community.”

As a Division III coach at Washington College, Shropshire led the Shoreman to success each year in the Centennial Conference, producing several 1000-point scorers in the school’s history. After basketball, he attended the University of Florida law school where he received his Juris Doctor.

Along with being the owner of the Antelope Valley Bulls, Shropshire leads one of the most successful educational consulting firms in the country – the Academic Network. He is also the Inaugural President of the Center for Afro-Excellence in Cali, Columbia where he works with the Minister of Foreign Affairs’ office in developing educational, athletic and cultural programs across the globe.

Shropshire remains dedicated to his Antelope Valley community as owner of the Semi-Pro Football team, the Lancaster Mustangs for the last three years.
