The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the Baytown Boom located near Houston TX
is the latest team to join the league starting with the upcoming season in November. “We are very pleased to have Orien Greene and Cyril White as part of the ABA,” stated ABA CEO Joe Newman. “Two very experienced guys with great business and basketball backgrounds who will make a great addition to our South Central Division. I know they will be successful.”
A native of Gainesville FL, Orien Green, the team owner was a standout nationally ranked high school recruit and played for both U of Florida and University of Louisiana at Lafayette which led to him being a 2nd round draft pick of the Boston Celtics, where he played on season before having stints with the Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings, completing his playing career professionally in Amsterdam, Israel and China as well as the NBA D-League. Currently he is a Development and Consultant to young players. “My goal is to bring a first-class professional basketball product to the city of Baytown and I believe my experience as a pro player and first-hand knowledge of locker rooms and front office management will help me add value to the ABA overall.”
Cyril White is a native Houstonian and will work with the Baytown Boom as General Manager. White played basketball
at Texas Lutheran University and coached women’s basketball at Angelina College and served as Scout Squad Coordinator for the WNBA Houston Comets. He started a sports outreach group, TO GOD BE THE GLORY SPORTS, in 1998 as well as playing professionally in Panama and China. From 2000-2020, his company arranged nearly 30 international tours and over 300 players traveled abroad to gain professional exposure. “I look to bring my experience in contracting, team assembly and decades of knowledge of international pro sports to the ABA in efforts to enhance the brands worldwide image,” commented White. “My goal is to make Baytown one of the most exciting fan experiences in the ABA.
