The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that Marsha Blount has been named Executive Vice President of the league.

This is long overdue,” stated ABA CEO Joe Newman. “Marsha has been an integral part of the ABA since 2005 when she became the first African-American woman to own a men’s professional basketball team and opened the doors for over 35 additional ABA women owners.

Born in Mt. Vernon NY, Marsha was a high school basketball star whose jersey now hangs in the rafters of Mt. Vernon
high school.  Following her playing career, she coached the Lady Diamonds women’s pro basketball team which was a
prelude to being Founder/CEO of the WABA, a sister league of the ABA in 2017 and has led the league to great success.  In 2019, she was selected as the Mount Vernon Boys & Girls Club Alumni of the Year.
“I am very excited to become part of the management team of the ABA.  The league is growing rapidly in the US and
internationally,” added Ms. Blount.  “We have many exciting new initiatives including ABAGALE, the ABA TV Network
and ABA Sales & Marketing, the marketing arm of the ABA and my responsibilities will be to oversee management of
several of these new ventures.  And of course, I’ll continue to run the WABA.”
