The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the Polk County Royals located in Lakeland FL is the latest team to be added to the record-setting expansion of the league for the upcoming season. “This is a particularly interesting team as it is owned by Amy Rhodes, who at age 21 became the owner of a professional basketball team when she founded the Royals and competed in a Florida pro league where the team had a stellar 19-1 record,” stated ABA CEO Joe Newman. “After transitioning from a standout multi-sport athlete, she has become a pioneering figure in basketball, despite being a devoted mom, teacher, coach and full-time student. An amazing young woman.”
Amy is being assisted by her father Dale Rhodes who has a multifaceted professional background as a Pastor and Real Estate Broker. Dale is deeply involved in various community initiatives, collaborating with multiple groups to uplift and empower those around him. He will serve as Team President and is instrumental in promoting, marketing and fostering relationships within the community. “I take immense pride in Amy’s accomplishments,” added Rhodes. “We are dedicated to the success and growth of the Polk County Royals and look forward to competing in the ABA.”
