The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the Worcester Majors located in Worcester MA will be returning to the league after a two-year hiatus. “We are very pleased to have the Majors back; great team, great organization,” stated ABA CEO Joe Newman. “And what a terrific fit into the powerful East Region.

The team is owned by Papee Paye who grew up in Worcester but was born in the Ivory Coast. He played basketball and was a South High Community School graduate. In 2018, Papee was awarded Hometown Hero. “Our team was named after the well-known American bicycle racer and Worcester resident, Marshall Walter “Major” Taylor who was the world’s first black sports superstar,” added Paye. “Our goal is to bring basketball back into our community while incorporating our core values – discipline, brotherhood, community and heart. We’re thrilled to be back in the ABA.
