The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it has added the ABA Bulldogs GA, a team composed primarily of deaf basketball players, to its roster of expansion teams starting in 2025. “This is a very exciting addition for us,” stated ABA CEO Joe Newman. “The team is an initiative led by Dwight Brewington, a former pro basketball player with over a decade of experience and Matthew Alston, a devoted friend and co-owner of the Bulldogs.”
“Our mission is dedicated to empowering and inspiring deaf athletes through the sport of basketball,” added Brewington. “Currently, we compete at local and regional levels and now we are thrilled to take our game to the professional arena. The ABA Bulldogs GA will be the first team of its kind in the region, providing a unique and inclusive platform where deaf players can showcase their talents, build a strong community and realize their full potential.”
Alston continued, “Our team will stand as a beacon of diversity and inclusion, creating a space where athletes can unite, compete and grow and support one another. We are committed to breaking barriers and setting new standards in sports, demonstrating that with determination and passion. There are no limits to what we can accomplish. Join us on this incredible journey as we lay the foundation for a legacy of excellence, unity and inspiration. The ABA Bulldogs GA represent more than just a team. They symbolize a movement towards a more inclusive future in sports.”
Stay tuned for updates and opportunities to support the mission as we prepare for an impactful debut in 2025.
