The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced ABAGENCY, a players management group, designed to help young professional basketball players prepare for international teams by providing a host of much needed services that will enhance their experience and help them maximize the potential. “The ABA is one of the largest sources of professional players recruited for international teams,” stated ABA CEO Joe Newman. “We send hundreds of players abroad each year. ABAGENCY will help prepare them for their overseas experience by providing help with passports and visas, understanding the various leagues and countries, finding legitimate workouts/tryouts, understanding what is expected on and off the court, FIBA rules and different styles of play, how to be successful as a professional so that players can reach the highest leagues to get the most pay possible.”
“Every country is different,” added Grant L. Worsley, President of ABAGENCY and owner of the ABA Jackson Showboats. “Culture awareness is very important. There is so much more than just signing a contract.”
Worsley founded Worsley Group Management in 1998 and has worked with musical artists and athletes in contract negotiations and brand management. A graduate of Syracuse University, he was a full scholarship athlete in football there. Over the years he has worked with Rob Burnett (Baltimore Colts), Jimmy Smith (Jacksonville Jaguars), Aaron Mosby (Green Bay Packers) and has helped send over 30 players to FiBA teams throughout the world. “my knowledge of what is needed and expected of players to get in the door and to stay there is vital,” continued Worsley. “My expertise to read and comprehend the ever changing world basketball situation and changing language in terms of contractual requirements is top notch. I believe this service is long overdue and the ABA is to be commended for its vision and desire to help so many professional basketball players maximize their potential.
