The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced the establishment of ABA Africa (ABAA), a new league that marks a significant expansion of the ABA’s brand and global reach. This exciting initiative follows the successful development of ABA leagues in Australia, Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean as well as Liberia. ABA Africa will be headquartered in Ghana with plans to involve countries across the continent, including Morocco in the North, Rwanda in the Central region, Angola and Mauritius in the South and Tanzania in the East.

The ABA has acquired 15 acres of land on the outskirts of Accra, the capital of Ghana, for the construction of a state-of-the-art ABA Arena. This project is expected to bring significant economic value to the area, foster community involvement and spirit, provide fitness opportunities and create a plethora of jobs.

The ABA’s expansion into Africa has been made possible through the efforts of ABA CEO Joe Newman, ABA Sr. Executive Harold Whaley and the ABA’s International Liaison Leslie Beckett Samuel. Prince Richard Nwaobie will serve as the Official President of ABA Africa.

ABA Africa is actively seeking partnerships in various sectors, including telecom, airline, metaverse, cryptocurrency, mental health, beverages, banking, de-fi, technology, film and music. These partnerships will play a crucial role in supporting the growth and success of the new league.

“I am deeply honored and humbled for being selected as the President of ABA Africa,” stated Prince Richard. “This initiative will not only create opportunities for the youth, but also create employment and community outreaches that will benefit a far greater number of people in Africa than ever imagined. And as the President of ABA Africa, I will do everything in my power to ensure that ABA Africa not only takes hold, but thrives on the Continent.”

In a groundbreaking initiative, ABA Africa will launch the ABA’s exclusive program, “DIGI-SEATS” which will allow local residents to partake in financial wealth by owning a seat in the newly constructed venue and receiving a usage fee every time someone buys a ticket to a sporting or entertainment event. “We are excited about this new chapter in ABA’s history,” added Samuel. “We look forward to bringing the spirit of basketball to communities across Africa with the centerpiece being our new facility.”

“And thanks to the ABAGALE TV Network and its international streaming on Roku, the entire world will be able to see Africa in a new and positive way; a great continent with great countries,” commented Whaley. “We will capture the heart and soul of Africa.”
