The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the league will return to Richmond, VA with the addition of the Richmond Ram Chargers starting in November 2024. “We are very pleased to be back in Richmond after a 3-year absence,” stated ABA CEO Joe Newman. “And in Hassan Fountain, we have an owner with great experience who will make an impact on and off the court.”

“The Man, the Myth, the Mystery,” Hassan Fountain is a 1995 graduate of Halifax High School and attended Bryant and Stratton Community College for Business Management. He started his political journey in 2016 running for the Richmond City Council and School Board. While he was not successful, it led to the creation of the Fountain for Youth Foundation which would go onto opening 19 Community Childrens Libraries throughout Central Virginia, Southwestern Virginia and Northern North Carolina where they placed over 142,000 children’s books into the hands of young readers. Hassan is the father of 7 children including 2 Army and Marine veterans.

“My goal in life is to improve the lives of others,” added Fountain. “So I invested in the ABA to do so. This is just the beginning of another lifetime story.”
